Shercom’s SHER-WAY® Rubber Paving System is a unique surfacing approach built on decades of experience in recycled rubber manufacturing. Over time, we’ve refined our processing, compounding, and installation practices, including the use of crumb rubber, color blends, bonding agents, and surfacing techniques. We collaborate with global partners (e.g. Playtop, Nike Grind) to incorporate advanced formulations.
Technical Advantages & Performance Features
Here’s why Shercom Rubber Paving stands out:
Feature & Benefit/Outcome
Durability & resilience - Unlike asphalt or concrete, rubber resists cracking under freeze/thaw cycling. It flexes and recovers.
Noise & vibration damping - The elasticity reduces sound and shock - great for residential driveways, pathways, patios, pool decks, playgrounds, sport courts and more.
Ice & snow performance - Melts faster than concrete; less ice buildup, safer in winter climates.
Customization - Colour blends, aggregate mixes, and design patterns allow flexibility in aesthetics.
Safety & impact absorption - Particularly when used for playgrounds, walkways, or sports surfaces, rubber offers safer landings and fall attenuation to meet CSA Standards.
Sustainability & circular economy - Uses recycled rubber tires, diverts waste from landfills, and gives new life to materials that otherwise degrade the environment.
Innovation fueled by Sustainability!
Driveways, walkways, steps, and patios on residential properties
Sidewalks, pathways, plazas in commercial or institutional settings
Sports courts, running paths, school grounds
Pool decks, splash pads, hot tub surrounds
Community projects (parks, municipal infills) where longevity, aesthetics, and safety matter
Installation essentials & quality control
To ensure top performance:
Substrate preparation – The rubber overlay is only as good as what it sits on. A solid flat surface is preferred. Filling and levelling of any significant cracking or missing concrete, asphalt or pavers is completed before the rubber paving is installed.
Proper drainage – Avoid pooling or standing water; slope and drain design are key.
Adhesion & bonding layers – We use specific primers and adhesives tailored to regional climate (Saskatchewan winters, freeze cycles).
Shercom SHER-WAY Rubber - Competitive when factoring in maintenance
Asphalt - Lower upfront, but higher maintenance
Concrete - Higher upfront, variable repair and upkeep
Environmental & Recycling
Shercom SHER-WAY Rubber - Made from recycled rubber; circular
Asphalt - Uses fossil fuel bitumen; non-recycled
Concrete - High embodied carbon; limited use

Considerations and myths
“Rubber is too soft / won’t hold heavy loads.” Actually, properly engineered rubber paving can handle residential vehicle loads and pedestrian traffic when installed on a good base.
“It’s expensive.” Upfront, rubber might look pricier than asphalt overlay—but over the life cycle (less repair, less maintenance), it’s often more cost-effective.
“Colours fade / bleach.” Our UV-resistant formulations, color blends, and protective coatings mitigate fading; proper installation reduces edge degradation.
“Winter behaviour is unpredictable.” On the contrary, rubber often handles freeze/thaw better than rigid surfaces, with lower cracking rates, faster ice melt and quicker snow clearing.
