Installation of the Shercom Rubber Paving Tile
Step 1. Prepare the surface. Shercom Rubber paving stones are 1/3 the weight of concrete. This makes them lighter than top soil. Therefore, for pedestrian traffic and light garden equipment, no sub surface packing is necessary. The paving stone mats will 'float' on the ground surface. If your intention is for a driveway, some packing will be needed to support the added weight of your vehicle. If in time some settling occurs, just lift that mat and fill in the base with sand.
Step 2. When you first bring your paving stones home, roughly lay them in place and let them sit for a minimum of 2 days before actual installation. This waiting period allows your new paving stones to ‘adjust’ to the environment of their new home. Some initial shrinkage occurs in the first week only.
Step 3. Have a secure outside perimeter. As long as the outside perimeter is secure, all the center stones will stay in place.
Step 4. Start on one edge. Custom fit your paving stones by cutting the edge pieces with a standard utility (razor) knife. Build the stones out like a puzzle, tightening each stone up to the next until your puzzle is complete.
